Global Community Initiatives marks the world's worst non-military nuclear disaster:
April 26, 2006 marks the 20th anniversary of the Chernobyl accident in Ukraine, an event that changed the world. It was a key reason that the Soviet Union changed so dramatically, as the citizens of the eastern bloc started demanding better access to environmental information. It also ended the incessant growth of the nuclear power industry. We have yet to learn all the lessons of this disaster, however, and nuclear power is now being advertised as the solution to global climate change. It is not.
